Two women died in a serious auto accident on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles, CA.

The fatal crash occurred a short time before 7:30 p.m. The victims were in a van that was traveling on Barham Boulevard and approaching a bridge over US Route 101, also known as the Hollywood Freeway. According to police, the van may have been speeding when it attempted to turn right onto a road that runs parallel to the highway. As the van passed over the bridge, the driver, a 60-year-old man, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a concrete barrier, and flipped onto the center median.

A second motor vehicle on the Hollywood Freeway then slammed into the van, while a third car also wound up being involved in the accident after the driver was unable to avoid a collision.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) immediately dispatched officers to the scene, where they saw the flipped van. The driver was trapped inside the van, so LA firefighters worked to get him out of the vehicle. He was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors treated him for significant injuries and later listed him in critical condition. The two passengers in the van, a 50-year-old female and a 60-year-old female, were pronounced dead at the site of the rollover accident.

The second car involved in the crash had just one occupant, a 48-year-old male, who also needed to be extracted from his vehicle by firefighters. He sustained catastrophic injuries in the motor vehicle accident and was later listed in critical condition.

No one in the third vehicle sustained any injuries as a result of the car accident.

For approximately two hours after the fatal crash, law enforcement shut down several lanes on the freeway so that debris could be cleared from the road and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers could conduct an investigation.

The Hollywood Freeway is one of the busiest roads in the United States. During the morning rush hour and the evening rush hour, motorists traveling on the highway need to exercise extreme caution because traffic congestion can significantly increase the likelihood of a serious car accident.
